Ladders

Intro

Welcome to our FREE ladders training program. While research shows that ladders do not make your feet quicker, they are still a very useful tool for athletic performance. Most importantly, they can develop rhythm and coordination of the feet.

In, In, out, Out

This pattern is so fundamental to the basketball. You need it to slide on defense, to side step your shot, etc. It’s important you stay balanced, keeping the basketball as a que to identify your core.

Hesitation Footwork

This is a great drill for developing one of the most important moves in the game, hesitation footwork. Changing speeds is a very important skill, and rarely taught. You MUST be able to perform your hesitation on the fly, reactively. That’s why this is one of our favorite drills.

Variations

Here is a series of advanced variations for our ladder series.

  • In, in, out, out’s  with wraps  1 min
  • Hesitation Footwork with wraps (Right) 1 min
  • Hesitation Footwork wraps (Left) 1 min
  • Hesitation Footwork with Dribble (R) 1 min
  • Hesitation Footwork with Dribble (L) 1 min
  • In, in, out, out’s with wrap and side step shot 1 min
  • (vary wrapping right and left )

Side Shuffle Stick

One of the most important thing a basketball player must be able to do is to stick. That means hold a unilateral athletic stance safely. If a player cannot do this, they are at a serious risk of injury. This is an opportunity to train that ability.

cross Step

You cannot become a defensive stopper, until you have the cross step in the bag. This needs to be AUTOMATIC. Rep this one out for 1 minute.

We use the Hex Ladder, and it can be purchased here:
